Diplocentrum - Lindley


An Indo-Sri Lankan genus of two species of epiphytic orchids, both found in Kerala .

1. Diplocentrum congestum Wight , I.c. Pl. Ind. Or. 5(1) : 10 .T. 1682. 1851.; J.D. Hook . 1890 : 78 ;Rolfe 1901 :t.2687 ;Fischer in Gamble 1928 : 1449. Santapau & Kapadia 1966: 236 ;Seidenfaden in Matthew 1999: 1260.

Wight described this species after a collection from 'Iyamally' , Coimbatore .We found this species growing in Wayanad.This is a new state record .

Occurrence : Wayanad District.

Distribution : Regional Endemic (Karnataka (type) and Kerala).

Herbarium Lindley contains the original collection with some sketches upon which the genus was established .

Occurrence: Idukki District.

Distribution : South India (Karnataka , Kerala and Tamil Nadu) and Sri Lanka.
