An Indo-Malesian genus of about a dozen species of epiphytic orchids, Rhytionanthos is represented in India by six species . two species occur in Kerala .

This is a new species under publication

Occurrence : Trivandrum District.

Distribution : Regional Endemic (Kerala, Tamil Nadu).

2. Rhytionanthos rheedei (manilal 7 Sathish ) Garay , Hamer , Siegerist , Nord. J. Bot. 14 (6) : 639 . 1994 .

This was first illustrated and described by Van Rheede from Kerala . Rheede had only a sterile specimen and hence his description very cursory , both didn't help the later commentators . We got flowering samples enabling us to describe in detail as a new species . garay et al. (1994) found this belong to their Rhytionanthos .

Occurrence : Trivandrum , Alappuzha and Idukki Districts.

Distribution : Regional Endemic (kerala , Karnataka ).
